Whodunit Challenge

Mr. Michael Spike (M/42), was found dead at 10:45 PM last night with two gunshots though the chest.  The murder weapon was placed into the victim’s hand post-mortem.  Animal hairs were recovered next to the body that are a match to a Labrador retriever breed of dog. Latent fingerprints were found on the weapon matching the victim as well as additional prints matching to a suspect below.  A bloody partial shoeprint was located on an athletic shoe, men's size 10, facing the opposite direction of the body.  Using the information below, do your best to solve the crime!

  • SUSPECT 1: George Finkleman (M/40)

    OCCUPATION: Inventor

    ADDRESS: 230 Welch Lane

    RELATION TO THE VICTIM: Business partner of the victim. They co-invented and patented the Galaxy Lint Brush last month.

    GUN SHOT RESIDUE (GSR) TEST RESULT: Positive

    FINGERPRINTS LIFTED FROM WEAPON: None

    ALIBI: Suspect claims he was at home. There are no witnesses to this claim.

    OTHER: The suspect is an avid game hunter and excellent marksman. No house pets and the suspect owns 3 horses that are housed in a stable behind his home. Two witnesses have come forth with evidence that the suspect and victim got into a heated argument no less than two hours prior to the murder. The argument was reported to be over the Galaxy Lint Brush.

  • SUSPECT 2: Wanda Taylor (F/38)

    OCCUPATION: Aerobics Instructor

    ADDRESS: 117 Main Street, Apartment 17

    RELATION TO THE VICTIM: (Ex) fiancé of the victim

    FINGERPRINTS LIFTED FROM WEAPON: None

    ALIBI: Suspect claims she was at the public library from 5 PM to 12 AM. There are no witnesses to this claim.

    OTHER: Suspect is the (ex) fiancé of the victim. Three witnesses have reported that the suspect and victim were at Abby’s Ice Cream Parlor the night before the murder. The two engaged in a public dispute that ended with the victim hurling a spoonful of ice cream in the suspect’s face prior to leaving the establishment. The suspect owns a pet cat.

  • SUSPECT 3: Jeffrey Rich (M/49)

    OCCUPATION: Athletic Trainer

    ADDRESS: 117 Main Street, Apartment 33

    RELATION TO THE VICTIM: Cousin of the victim

    GUN SHOT RESIDUE (GSR) TEST RESULT: Negative

    FINGERPRINTS LIFTED FROM WEAPON: None

    ALIBI: Suspect claims he was at home. There are no witnesses to this claim. He has a roommate (Wally Parker) who was not at home during this time.

    OTHER: Suspect is the last living relative of the victim and stands to inherit 3.5 million dollars from their late grandfather that passed away last Tuesday.

  • SUSPECT 4: Wally Parker (M/55)

    OCCUPATION: Real Estate Attorney

    ADDRESS: 117 Main Street, Apartment 33

    RELATION TO THE VICTIM: Close personal friend.

    GUN SHOT RESIDUE (GSR) TEST RESULT: Negative

    FINGERPRINTS LIFTED FROM WEAPON: Right thumb, index finger and palm print were all lifted from the weapon and are a match to this suspect.

    ALIBI: Suspect was at a business dinner with a client from Tokyo. The client has confirmed he was with the suspect from 6 PM to 11 PM.

    OTHER: The gun used in the murder of Mr. Charlie Gale is registered to the suspect. The suspect owns two Labrador Retrievers.
